Qualicum Beach Creek Estuary Works
QUALICUM BEACH, BC
Lanarc’s work set out to restore and enhance the riparian, estuarine, intertidal, and foreshore landscapes adjacent to the newly restored Beach Creek Estuary and Marine Spit. Working with an interdisciplinary team, Town staff, and the community, Lanarc designed a landscape grounded in Greenshores principles and resilient to seasonal storms and future sea‑level rise.
This project was completed as a follow‑up to the Beach Creek restoration and in tandem with the Qualicum Beach Memorial Roundabout to align with broader road and infrastructure upgrades.
Lanarc’s efforts included designing the observation deck, creating seating opportunities, developing interpretive signage, and establishing extensive plantings: dune grasses along the spit and foreshore, native species in the upland areas, sedge grasses in the intertidal zone, and rooftop vegetation over the utility facility.
Since completion, fish have returned to Beach Creek, otters now frequent the spit, and a growing diversity of wildlife has begun to call the Beach Creek Estuary home.

QUALICUM BEACH STREAMKEEPERS & TOWN OF QUALICUM BEACH
Lanarc worked closely with Qualicum Beach Streamkeepers, Arrowsmith Naturalists, and the Town of Qualicum Beach to develop the landscape and interpretive signage design for this tribute to the late Faye Smith Rosenblatt, noted ocean environmental champion and wild salmon advocate.
The waterfront site includes native plant restoration, an accessible covered viewing platform, and extensive interpretive signage that provides information about the site’s native vegetation, habitat areas, ecological identity, and Faye Smith Rosenblatt’s legacy. Natural materials are integrated throughout to echo the surrounding landscapes and offer places to perch and spots to rest, while taking in beautiful views of Qualicum Beach.
