Bernard Avenue Revitalization

city of kelowna

Bernard Avenue forms the historic and cultural heart of Kelowna.
A $12-million dollar investment in capital improvements was a catalyst for achieving the community’s vision for a safe, prosperous, vibrant, and pedestrian-friendly downtown.

The previously vehicle-dominated streetscape was redesigned from utilities up, and now includes a narrowed roadway, expanded sidewalks, extensive street tree, and amenity plantings with soil cell technologies. Lanarc staff, working as part of a multidisciplinary team, also incorporated a customized suite of furnishings, lighting, and materials that celebrate the City’s unique natural and cultural heritage.

The multidisciplinary team recognized that public infrastructure must be both beautiful and durable. To achieve this goal, our team collaborated extensively with municipal design, construction, and operations staff to ensure that deliverables addressed not just immediate aesthetic, scheduling, and budget goals, but provided a durable and functional long-term solution to enrich the downtown experience.
