UBC Wesbrook Daycare

Lanarc staff worked with Francl Architecture to create a daycare and playspace in Wesbrook Village at the University of British Columbia.

The UBC Wesbrook Daycare is a nature-based playground that provides opportunities for children to challenge themselves and engage in free play. Un-structured, imaginative play has proven to correlate with brain development, intelligence, language development, and social skills. The playground is divided into three age groups separated by low wood fencing – infants, toddlers, and 3-5 year olds. Each age group has their own covered cozy corner. The design was carefully planned to protect the existing large trees, allowing for a playground in the forest. Spaces include stroller parking, vegetable gardens, edible landscape plants, sand play, storage sheds and trike paths.
